It creates an irc directory tree with server, channel and nick name directories. In every directory a FIFO in file and a normal out file is created. The in file is used to communicate with the servers and the out files contain the server messages. For every channel and every nick name there are related in and out files created. This allows IRC communication from command line and adheres to the Unix philosophy. example Join a channel as follows: $ echo "/j #wmii" > in and ii creates a new #wmii (channel) directory with in and out files. irc/irc.oftc.net |-- #wmii | |-- in | `-- out |-- #ii | |-- in | ...

Are you sure you want to share it? Yes, show me sharing options Share on Twitter Share on Facebook Share by email I recently created my own NES emulator . I did it mostly for fun and to learn about how the NES worked. I learned some interesting things, so I wrote this article to share. There is a lot of documentation already out there, so this is just meant to highlight some interesting tidbits. Warning : this will be very technical! My emulator can record animated GIFs. Here I am playing Donkey Kong. The NES used the MOS 6502 (at 1.79 MHz) as its CPU. The 6502 is an 8-bit microprocessor ...

Hacker News new | comments | show | ask | jobs | submit login mrsirduke 7 hours ago | parent It seems they're using xnbd to provide the storage for the box. On Debian, the box is running a xnbd-client, which provides the rootfs: xnbd-client --blocksize 4096 --retry=900 10.1.32.197 4096 /dev/nbd0 root@scw-6d2eff:~# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/nbd0 46G 507M 44G 2% / I did not check, but I hope there's some filtering/authentication for that process. Like EC2 and others, the box has an internal ip allocated and an external ip via nat (or something else). I was able to download a file from OVH with ~500 Mbit/s throughput when writing to the filesystem. Writing to /dev/null it increases to ~650 Mbit/s. Running an untuned nginx, it can do ~300 req/s with ~20% cpu util. Seeing as the storage is still virtual, I'm not really sure why this woul...

Monkey Patching in Go

Bouke van der Bijl Github Twitter Mar 2015 Many people think that monkey patching is something that is restricted to dynamic languages like Ruby and Python. That is not true however, as computers are just dumb machines and we can always make them do what we want! Let’s look at how Go functions work and how we can modify them at runtime. This article will use a lot of Intel assembly syntax, so I’m assuming you can read it already or are using a reference while reading. If you’re not interested in how it works and you just want to do monkey patching, then you can find the library here . note: samples should be built with go build -gcflags=-l to disable inlining. For this article I assume your architecture is 64-bits and that you’re using a unix-based operating system like Mac OSX or a Linux variant Let’s look at what the following code produces when disassembled: When ...
