View project on GitHub Watchy is a distributed system for Application and Server Monitoring, I've always found most solutions be very complicated and hard to manage. Making applications watch process id's then they stop and the pid has updated and you start the whole thing over again. Watchy has a distributed architecture and communication between the daemon on each server to the dashboard is over udp, meaning if something goes down and comes back up again it just simply doesn't matter about handling connection issues. It seems to be working very well in my tests at work and i am sure you will love it. Watchy has a very application/event driven model and it can be seen in this diagram: This can be all scripted or manipulatied by Python or C/C++ but first we need to start the server: $ /usr/local/bin/watchy.py --help Usage: watchy.py [ options ] Options: -h, --help...

GitSvnComparison From Git SCM Wiki Jump to: navigation , search start content Note: This page is currently a work in progress. It started out as a private email to someone who currently uses Subversion. I decided to make it available and try to extend it further. I'll remove this comment when the page is improved. :) -- Shawn Pearce See the discussion page for further comments Although this page is hosted on a Git-specific Wiki it tries to provide a fair and unbiased comparison of Git and Subversion to help prospective users of both tools better evaluate their choices. This page only describes base Subversion and does not discuss the benefits and drawbacks to using SVK , a distributed wrapper around Subversion. It also does not discuss using Git as subversion client . A summary of differences Git is much faster than Subversion Subversion allows you to check out ju...

CentralNotice Compare-and-swap From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation , search In computer science , compare-and-swap ( CAS ) is an atomic instruction used in multithreading to achieve synchronization . It compares the contents of a memory location to a given value and, only if they are the same, modifies the contents of that memory location to a given new value. This is done as a single atomic operation. The atomicity guarantees that the new value is calculated based on up-to-date information; if the value had been updated by another thread in the meantime, the write would fail. The result of the operation must indicate whether it performed the substitution; this can be done either with a simple Boolean response (this variant is often called compare-and-set ), or by returning the value read from the memory location ( not the value written to it). ...

Joe Armstrong - Erlang and other stuff Home Archive Resources Installing Links Source 31 May 2013 About a week ago I started looking at Elixir . Elixir had been one of those things that I was vaguely aware of but had not yet time to look at in any detail. This all changed when I discovered the announcement that Dave Thomas was publishing Programming Elixir . Dave Thomas edited my Erlang book and did great work in introducing Ruby, so when Dave gets excited about something then this is a sure sign that something interesting is in the wind. Dave was excited about Elixir, in the introduction to his new book he says: I came across Ruby in 1998 because I was an avid reader of comp.lang.misc (ask your parents). I downloaded it, compiled it, and fell in love. As with any time you fall in love, it’s difficult to explain why. It just worked the way I work, and it had ...
