How to take advantage of Redis just adding it to your stack

rss / about / it How to take advantage of Redis just adding it to your stack Tuesday, 28 June 11 Redis is different than other database solutions in many ways: it uses memory as main storage support and disk only for persistence, the data model is pretty unique, it is single threaded and so forth. I think that another big difference is that in order to take advantage of Redis in your production environment you don't need to switch to Redis. You can just use it in order to do new things that were not possible before, or in order to fix old problems. Switching to Redis is of course an option, and many users are using Redis as primary database since they need features or write speed or latency or some other feature, but as you can guess switching is a big step if you have an already running application in production. Also for some other kind of applications Redis may not be the ...

Real Programmers Don't Use Pascal

[ A letter to the editor of Datamation , volume 29 number 7, July 1983. I've long ago lost my dog-eared photocopy, but I believe this was written (and is copyright) by Ed Post, Tektronix, Wilsonville OR USA. The story of Mel is a related article. ] Back in the good old days-- the "Golden Era" of computers-- it was easy to separate the men from the boys (sometimes called "Real Men" and "Quiche Eaters" in the literature). During this period, the Real Men were the ones who understood computer programming, and the Quiche Eaters were the ones who didn't. A real computer programmer said things like "DO 10 I=1,10" and "ABEND" (they actually talked in capital letters, you understand), and the rest of the world said things like "computers are too complicated for me" and "I can't relate to computers-- they're so impersonal". (A previous work [1] points out that Real Men don't "relate" to a...

Stackless Python

Preferences Login Register Documentation Timeline wiki: WikiStart Start Page Index History Last modified 2 months ago Last modified on 02/08/2015 01:29:41 PM Stackless Python is an enhanced version of the Python programming language. It allows programmers to reap the benefits of thread-based programming without the performance and complexity problems associated with conventional threads. The microthreads that Stackless adds to Python are a cheap and lightweight convenience which can if used properly, give the following benefits: Improved program structure. More readable code. Increased programmer productivity. For all the convenience gained through using Stackless, there is really only a minimal amount of functionality exposed through the stackless module. You can get more familiar with these aspects by reading the nformation provided in the fo...

Sortix libz

This is Sortix libz. This is not zlib. This is a fork of zlib. libz is a general purpose data compression library. The data format used by libz is described by RFC 1950 (zlib format), RFC 1951 (deflate format), and RFC 1952 (gzip format). Sortix libz is developed as part of the Sortix operating system by Jonas 'Sortie' Termansen ( sortie@maxsi.org ) and contributors. This libz has been cleaned up: Support for anything but modern Unix operating systems has been deleted. Support for 16-bit segmented platforms has been deleted. K&R function prototypes and declarations have been upgraded to ISO C ones. Mysterious work-arounds for broken toolchains and operating systems have been deleted. Questionable abstractions like local, z_const, and Z_NULL have been replaced with static, const, and NULL. Unsafe standard libr...
