It is a bell-shaped pit or sinkhole within the Madison Limestone , 85 feet (26 m) deep, with a slightly elongated opening of 12 feet (3.7 m) by 15 feet (4.6 m) at the top, and a diameter of around 120 feet (37 m) at the bottom.
