OlegDB OlegDB Blog Downloads FAQ Docs Community Content right_side_nav Grid 2014-04-12 by Quinlan Pfiffer Comments Today at Proleg Labs™ we're going to discuss the awesome bechmarking tool wrk . wrk is a badass little HTTP stress testing utility written by a mysterious open-source do-gooders . I'm gonna run through how we torture OlegDB with it to make sure everything is working in an acceptable fashion. Building and installing wrk is outside the scope of this article, but it's not hard. You just need to do your standard make && make install dance and you'll do fine. Once you have your wrk executable handy, we can get started. On my particular machine, I like to test with these settings: $ ./wrk -t8 -c400 -d30s http://localhost:8080/test This requires a little explanation. -t8 is the number of threads to use. I've got eight cores, lets use eight threads...
OlegDB OlegDB Blog Downloads FAQ Docs Community Content right_side_nav Grid 2015-01-31 by Quinlan Pfiffer Comments During our most recent episode of OlegDB muckery, I glossed over how we migrated from Erlang to Go for the latest release. I also promised that I would go over in more detail why we switched and what the benefit was, even if our lines added/removed was about the same. The first thing I would like to clarify is that OlegDB is not primarily written in Go, nor was it primarily written in Erlang. OlegDB is, and will always be, a giant C hairball. I say hairball with the fondest conotations a neurotic developer can conjure up. It seems many people were confused about this concept, so I will repeat: We did not rewrite OlegDB in Go, we rewrote the communication layer from Erlang to Go. So to go over why we switched, I'll elaborate on the reasons I...

OlegDB OlegDB Blog Downloads FAQ Docs Community Content right_side_nav Grid 2015-01-25 by Quinlan Pfiffer Comments With an exciting new year comes and exciting new release of OlegDB! We have a sweet suite of backwards-compatible (kind of) changes in store for all 12 of you using this mayo jar of a database! Including but not limited to: Removed Erlang in favor of Go Transactions! Sort of. Mayo Workbench Bug-fixes The reasons we're not using Erlang anymore are pretty simple: Bus-factor The Port Driver Easier to find Go contributors Shipping a binary is infinitely easier than handling a VM Unix signal handling Expect a full blog post elaborating on these reasons, but for now just know that it was easier for us to switch to a Go + C stack rather than an Erlang + C one. In this release we've laid the foundation for full ACID transactions in OlegDB. They're...
