That’s a big question. Here’s a smaller one: Where do mathematical ideas come from? I’ve wondered about this from the time I first contemplated being a mathematician until long after I officially became one. My earliest memory of anything like a mathematical idea comes from a childhood walk with my dad. We left the house and made our way toward downtown Metuchen, the tiny town in central Jersey where I grew up, to a little luncheonette called the Corner Confectionery. I can still picture it: the rack of newspapers, magazines, and comic books; the ice-cream tre...

Crab mentality - Wikipedia

CentralNotice From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to navigation Jump to search Live crabs in a bucket Crab mentality , also known as crabs in a bucket (also barrel , basket , or pot ) mentality , is a way of thinking best described by the phrase "if I can't have it, neither can you". [1] The metaphor is derived from a pattern of behavior noted in crabs when they are trapped in a bucket. While any one crab could easily escape, [2] its efforts will be undermined by others, ensuring the group's collective demise. [3] [4] [5] The analogy in human behavior is claimed to be that members of a group will attempt to reduce the self-confidence of any member who achieves success beyond the others, out of envy , resentment , spite , conspiracy , or competitive feelings, to halt their progress. [6] [7] [8] [9] Impact on performance [ edit ] Crab mentality affects perform...

suckless.org - tools home dwm st core surf tools libs e.V. download source about 9base/ blind/ dmenu/ farbfeld/ ii/ bots/ patches/ usage/ quark/ sent/ sic/ slock/ slstatus/ tabbed/ x/ ii is a minimalist FIFO and filesystem-based IRC client. It creates an irc directory tree with server, channel and nick name directories. In every directory a FIFO in file and a normal out file is created. The in file is used to communicate with the servers and the out files contain the server messages. For every channel and every nick name there are related in and out files created. This allows IRC communication from command line and adheres to the Unix philosophy. example Join a channel as follows: $ echo "/j #wmii" > in and ii creates a new #wmii (channel) directory with in and out files. irc/irc.oftc.net |-- #wmii | |-- in | `-- out |-- #ii | |-- in | `-- out...

Malevolent Cartography - Oregon Emerald Outback 2019

Malevolent Cartography You can't kill me. Resume Archive Contact Oregon Emerald Outback 2019 May 12, 2019 by Quinlan Pfiffer On May 3rd 2019 I left Portland with a bunch of dudes determined to finish the Oregon Emerald Outback , a 570 mile race with 55,000 or so feet of climbing. We didn’t make it to the finish line, in fact we didn’t even really come close, but we rode hard and suffered in garbage bags for eight days and had a blast. Heres the route we ended up taking: Day zero was pretty much what you’d expect, a lot of frantic getting used to the bikes and realizing we were strapped in for the long haul with no quick way out. We met up at Dragonfly Coffee and hung out for probably way too long before actually leaving. None of us were really in a hurry to do a fully loaded century up to Astoria, along highway 30. We eve...
